learntoflyhelis.com is a free, single-page tool for tracking RC helicopter flight training. It is a personal project, not a company. This page explains exactly what happens to your data.
Your maneuver progress, sign-offs, witness names, notes, flight log entries, optional aircraft names/models, preflight dates, recent progress events, and light/dark theme preference are saved in your browser's local storage. That data stays on your device. It is not transmitted to me or to any third party, and I have no way to read it.
Clearing your browser data for this site, or using the "Reset all" button, permanently deletes it. That is why the site offers Export, file sync, and Google Drive backup.
The built-in session plan is generated entirely in your browser. If you choose "Copy for AI coaching," the site copies maneuver titles and statuses to your clipboard. It does not include witness names or notes, and it does not contact an AI service. Data leaves your device only if you paste that prompt into a service yourself, at which point that service's privacy policy applies.
If your browser supports installable web apps, a service worker stores the site's application files in a local browser cache so the tracker can reopen without a network connection. This cache contains the site itself, not a separate copy of your training data.
The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It is privacy-focused: it sets no cookies, does not fingerprint visitors, and does not track people across sites. I see aggregate figures such as page views, referrers, and countries. I cannot identify individual visitors.
If you choose to connect Google Drive, the site requests a single permission scope: drive.file. This is the most limited Drive scope Google offers, and it is worth being precise about what it does and does not allow.
pilot-proficiency-progress.json.Your Google sign-in token is held in memory for the browser tab only and is never written to disk. Closing the tab discards it. The site does not receive your Google password, and it does not request your name, email address, or profile information.
You can disconnect at any time using the same button, and you can revoke access permanently at Google Account › Third-party access. Deleting the file in Drive is enough to remove the backup; the site will create a fresh one only if you connect again.
This use of Google user data complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. The data is used solely to provide the backup feature you requested. It is never sold, transferred, or used for advertising, and it is not used to train any AI or machine learning model.
The "Sync to file" option asks you to pick a file on your own computer, then writes your progress to it as you work. If you put that file inside a Google Drive, Dropbox, or iCloud folder, your own desktop app uploads it. The site is not involved in that transfer and has no access to the folder you chose.
This site links to retailers, manufacturers, YouTube channels, forums, and government pages, and includes a Venmo link for tips. Once you follow a link, that site's own privacy policy applies. I am not currently in the Amazon Associates program and earn no commission from any product link here. If that changes, this page and the links themselves will say so clearly.
RC flying is a family hobby and younger pilots are welcome to use this tracker. The site does not ask for anyone's name, age, email address, or any other personal detail, so no personal information is knowingly collected from anyone, children included.
